'Little Voice' at the SJT, Scarborough - S R Taylor Photography

I was delighted to be invited to the Stephen Joseph Theatre to track their production of 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice'. I grew up in Scarborough and was a member of the youth theatre, Rounders, when I was at school. It is a special place and I always love working there.

It is an exciting time for the theatre and this is a very important show for them. Paul Robinson, the new Artistic Director, is showing his programmed work for the first time and 'Little Voice' is a fabulous way to start. I was given so much access to the show and the building as a whole in order to document all the elements of putting a big show together.

It has been so much fun! Here are my favourite images from my time with the show.

Day One: Meet-and-Greet and Reading the Play

The SJT really makes the acting company feel at home. Representatives from all the departments come to welcome them and show them round the building. In the afternoon there are costume fittings, then the actors read the play aloud for the first time followed by some publicity shots. A busy day!

Rehearsals

I joined the cast again after a week and a half of rehearsals. At this point the play is beginning to find its feet and it was really exciting to see them work - it was such a fun rehearsal room.

The 'Tech'

'Little Voice' is an extremely complex show and the technical rehearsal is a high-pressure environment for director, cast, and crew. All the departments came together to put the show onstage, and managed to maintain a sense of humour!

Backstage at the first Preview

I was lucky enough to follow the cast as they prepared for their first public showing. They even allowed me to track their journeys backstage.
